Pedro Antonio Doño

Hi, my name is Pedro Antonio Doño Chávez and I was born in Zacatecoluca, La Paz. I learned the craft of working with natural fibers when I was only 12 years old, watching other master artisans in my town carefully weave each piece by hand. Back then, I was fascinated by the patience and skill the work required, and little by little I began trying it myself.

“It took years of practice to perfect my technique. I made many mistakes in the beginning, but with dedication and perseverance I continued learning until this craft became a part of my life. Over time, weaving with natural fibers became more than just work for me—it became a tradition I was proud to preserve.

“Today, at 75 years old, I continue working from my workshop in Zacatecoluca, creating each piece by hand with the same care I learned as a child. Many of my crafts are shared at the National Artisan Market in San Salvador, where people can still appreciate the value of traditional handmade work. I feel proud to be one of the few artisans in my town who still continues this craft and keeps its history alive through every piece.”
