Description

Add a touch of rich cultural heritage and coastal charm to your wardrobe with the Indigo Tide Tote Bag. Handcrafted with exceptional mastery, this 10.2-inch (26 cm) tall bag beautifully merges organic textures with traditional dyeing techniques. The upper half of the body and its sturdy tubular handles are crafted from authentic natural jute, providing a rustic aesthetic and proven durability. The true charm of the piece lies in its lower half: a soft fabric hand-painted and dyed with añil (natural indigo), featuring a captivating tie-dye or shibori-style pattern that evokes the movement of the sea in deep blue and white tones. For a secure and stylish closure, it features a jute loop and a delicate button covered in the same indigo fabric. Furthermore, its interior is fully protected by a matching blue fabric lining, ensuring your belongings travel safely. Ideal for a summer day, a stroll through the farmers market, or casual outings, this tote is a beautiful tribute to the ancient Salvadoran art of indigo dyeing.

Key Features

  • Authentic Natural Jute: The top section and tubular handles are woven from eco-friendly jute fiber, offering superior resilience and a charming rustic contrast.
  • Indigo Art (Natural Añil): The base stands out with its hand-dyed fabric using natural indigo in a tie-dye technique, making the blue and white pattern of each bag completely one-of-a-kind.
  • Sturdy Jute Handles: Equipped with finely rolled jute straps that provide a comfortable, firm, and highly natural grip on the shoulder or by hand.
  • Artisanal Button Closure: Includes a practical top closure secured by a fabric-covered button matching the dyed base, adding a meticulously crafted design detail.
  • Fully Lined Interior: A soft blue fabric lining protects the main compartment, adding structure and shielding your personal items from the natural fiber.

Sonia Patricia

Hi, my name is Sonia Patricia, and I was born in Santa Ana, El Salvador. I learned to weave when I was a young girl, never imagining that one day this skill would become one of my greatest sources of strength. Five years ago, after losing my job, I had to find a new way to support myself. Rather than give up in the face of uncertainty, I decided to learn how to work with jute and explore the possibilities this new skill could offer.

With hard work and determination, I was able to establish a small weaving workshop in Santa Ana, where I handcraft jute bags. Turning my skills into a reliable source of income wasn’t easy at first, but little by little, I refined my technique and found a sense of fulfillment in every piece I created. Today, my bags represent much more than a way to make a living. They allow me to support myself through my own work and take pride in knowing that I still have so much to create and contribute.

My bags are sold primarily at the National Artisan Market in San Salvador, where people who appreciate handmade goods can discover my work. Each piece carries a part of my story and reflects the determination of a woman who chose to start over when life took an unexpected turn. For me, working with jute is not just a way to earn a living; it is also a reminder to believe in myself and in everything I can still achieve.
